Urban Policy Dialogues 2016 at IIHS Bangalore City Campus
The Urban Policy Dialogues 2016 will be held at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) Bangalore City Campus on 10 and 11th November 2016. IIHS is one of the five leading partners of the ASSAR consortium.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) define a global consensus around universal development goals to be met over the 2015-30 period, to which India is a key signatory. The 17 SDGs include an explicit stand alone Urban SDG 11 (“Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”) that IIHS helped define. This is especially supported by SDG 6 (“Ensure access to water and sanitation for all”), SDG 7 (“Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”) and SDG 13 (“Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”).
The SDGs provide a universal development framework committed to leaving no-one behind, involving all people, especially the most vulnerable; a mandate to provide solutions for both rural and urban regions; and a crucial connection between the natural and built environments.
The Urban Policy Dialogues 2016 will dwell specially on the six themes of:
-
Housing
-
Water and Sanitation
-
Energy
-
Land
-
Climate Change, and
-
Risk and Resilience
The Dialogues will bring together participants from the government, academia, civil society, the enterprise sector and other practitioners; to explore the development of an operational agenda for the implementation of the SDGs.
We will deliberate on India's policies and prospective SDG targets, and explore an evidence-based framework that enables monitoring of progress towards the achievement of India's development goals.
