Whose appropriate technology? Understanding the adoption of micro-irrigation in the face of climate and policy uncertainty
In India, drip irrigation is seen as a technology that can address the problem of growing water scarcity while simultaneously increasing productivity and farmer incomes. However, adoption of this technology by farmers remains low, despite the state providing generous subsidies to promote micro-irrigation.
In this new ASSAR working paper, the authors Karan Misquitta and Kalyani Thatte examine the barriers that farmers in the state of Maharashtra face in adopting drip irrigation and how these emerge and persist.
